Camp Counselor Information

What is a Camp Cousenlor?

Camp counselors are high school students who plan and implement Cloverbud Day Camp and Hardin County 4-H Camp. Counselors begin meeting in January for training and camp planning.  There are typically 2 meeting per month and an overnight retreat at camp in February.

Who is Eligible to Apply? 

  • 4-H members who are currently a Sophmore, Junior, or Senior in high school.
  • No camp experience required!

Application Process

  1. Complete & sign the Camp Counselor Application.

    • Due on December 20, 2025
  2. Provide three non-family references with contact information.
    • This is part of the application form.
    • Please include name, relationship to you, and a valid email address.
    • Who to include as a reference: 4-H advisor, coach, teacher, employer/supervisor, adult leader of another activity, etc.
    • Who NOT to inlcude as a reference: Parents, Relatives, People under 18
  3. Interview with the 4-H Educator. January 6 – 8, 2025.
    • Sign up for an interview time at  http://go.osu.edu/25counselorinterviews
    • Please bring a resume to the interview.
    • Dress is casual.
    • What to expect:
      • 20 to 25 minute conversation at the OSU Extension office
      • Discussion on the position and what is expected
      • Brainstorming theme and session ideas
      • Sharing your strengths and skills and how you can contribute to the team

Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Information

What is a CIT?

Counselors in Training are youth who are 1-2 years away from being eligible to serve as a camp counselor.  Serving as a CIT provides an opportunity to get a better understanding of what is required as a camp counselor, get training to help prepare for the counselor role, and assist at camp.

Who is Eligible to Apply? 

  • 4-H members who are currently in the 8th grade or a Freshman in high school.
  • No camp experience required!

Anyone who is interested can serve as a CIT. There is ONE training day that all CITs should attend.  This year training is Friday, June 27th from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the OSU Extension Office.   If you are unable to attend, but still wish to serve as a CIT, please email or call Amanda.
