A message from Emergency Management

Your Safety is Our Priority

The Ohio State University Department of Public Safety welcomes you to a new academic year! Whether you are a new Buckeye or a returning student, faculty or staff member, your safety is our top priority.

Please take a moment to watch our new “Surviving an Active Aggressor” video that provides important updates to the university’s original safety tutorial released in 2015. It’s scary to think about, but it is best to be prepared because an attack could happen any place at any time. Our new video answers your most commonly asked questions and expands on the Run, Hide, Fight safety tips.

Below are a few more reminders to help you make safety a daily priority:

  • Ensure you are registered to receive Buckeye Alert emergency notifications.
  • Please be aware of your surroundings and practice safe habits, especially at night.
  • Use transportation services such as the Campus Area Bus Service (CABS) or our Student Safety Service Safe Ride program, which operates from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on our Columbus campus.
  • Student Life’s Off-Campus and Commuter Student Services provides free window and door alarms and safety timers for students.
  • If you see something, say something: report suspicious behavior on our Columbus campus to University Police at 614-292-2121 or off-campus to Columbus Police at 614-645-4545.
  • Of course, always dial 9-1-1 in an emergency.
  • Please follow us on Twitter at @OSUPolice and @OSU_EMFP!
