Year in Review
[ “Year in Review” is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student. You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year. Columbus To-Do List #1

My Humanitarian Engineering Scholars group and I went to Condado Tacos on October 27. We took a bus to the Short North around 11:30 and had lunch together. It was difficult to get everyone together for lunch, but we managed to do it. At the restaurant, we all got to know each other a bit and had some great tacos. I had never eaten there before so it was a new experience. I was a bit overwhelmed at first when I saw the menu. It seemed more like a scantron than a menu, but the waiter showed us how to use it. I had a chorizo taco and a brisket taco. I tried different sauces and enjoyed both of them, but next time I will try something else so I can find out what I like the most there. I really enjoyed my food so I would definitely recommend it for anyone who likes tacos.
Career
[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career. Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated. Artifacts
Artifact #1

One item that represents my academic interests is my camera. It represents my creativity and my desire to share knowledge. This item has allowed me to capture some of my favorite memories and moments. My camera also allows me to find beauty in the world, even in places I would not normally expect to find it.
Artifact #2

Another artifact that describes me is the pumpkin I got from the pumpkin patch with the other scholars. The pumpkin itself is not too important, but the memory associated with it matters to me. The corn maize event where I got it from was one of the first times I got to do a non academic activity with the other scholars. I enjoyed this event and it was a great way to distract myself from the stress of my first semester. I also met a lot of new people and was able to make some new friends. It brought me closer to the other members of HES and made me remember why I wanted to join the scholars in the first place. We all had a great time exploring the corn maze, picking out pumpkins, and drinking hot chocolate. The pumpkin serves as a great reminder of the friends I have made at college as well as making my dorm a bit more festive.
About Me
My name is Colin Hanna and I am a first year student at The Ohio State University. I am from Springfield, OH where I went to Catholic Central High School. I am studying mechanical engineering and I am in the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars program.
Engineering has always seemed like a great fit for me. I enjoy math and science, and have always wanted to use my creativity and problem solving skills in my career. Humanitarian Engineering seems to be a great fit for me as well. During high school I got involved with service opportunities by volunteering and participating in school-wide service days. I have always felt like the service I participated in enhanced my education, so I definitely wanted to continue serving at Ohio State.
By majoring in mechanical engineering, I would like to work in the automotive industry. While I was in high school, I did an internship at a truck manufacturing plant which showed how interesting this industry is to me. During my time at Ohio State, I would love to do more internships to learn about engineering and get technical experience. I am also interested in studying abroad to learn more about other countries and have new experiences.
I am also interested in photography, golf, tennis, and film. I enjoy spending time with friends and traveling.
