Research Award for Ph.D. Students

Guidelines and Conditions for Selection
The Research Award Committee is seeking applications for the WRHMFEE
Research Award to be given to a Ph.D. student for outstanding performance
in research in the field of Family Economics-Home Management. The
recipient of the award receives $150 plus up to $250 toward conference
fees, travel, and lodging at the 1997 WRHMFEE Annual Conference,
Sacramento, California. The recipient must present the paper at the
conference and must pay the full conference registration fee.
Guidelines and Conditions for Selection:
1. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Ph.D. Program in home
management-family economics, or have completed such a program after
2. Four (4) copies of an individually-authored, scholarly paper based on
the completed dissertation are to be submitted to:

No identifying information should be on any of these copies.
Manuscripts must be received by July 1, 1997.
3. The paper shall comply with American Psychological Association (APA)
format and should not exceed 25 pages, double spaced, including a separate
title page, tables, and bibliography. It should be accompanied by a
separate letter of application stating: applicant’s name, current address,
telephone number, date of receipt or anticipated receipt of doctoral
degree, title of degree, institution granting degree, major professor, and
In addition, a letter of recommendation from the major professor must
accompany the application or be sent under separate cover and received by
July 1, 1997.
4. The awardee must present a 30-minute oral summary of the research at the
WRHMFEE Annual Conference in Sacramento, California, beginning October 25,
5. Entries will be evaluated and ranked by a committee composed of members
of WRHMFEE on the following criteria:
a. creativity, significance, timeliness and contribution to home
b. appropriateness of research design and methodology to the topic;
c. extent to which research or theoretical framework recognizes and build
on previous/current work; and
d. general overall impression of the manuscript: readability, style,
organization and composition.
6. After selection of recipient, other worthy manuscripts will be forwarded
to the WRHMFEE Refereed Papers Chair for consideration. Authors who do
not want their papers to be forwarded should so indicate in their letter
7. The Research Award Committee reserves the right to withhold the award in
the event that there are no suitable entries.
