About Me

Graduation 2016 655  My name is Dares Hamid and I am from Gallipolis, a small town located in southern Ohio. I am majoring in Exercise Science. I chose this major because I love health and fitness. Some day I want to help people reach their fitness goals and help athletes reach their athletic potential. My greatest passions are lifting weights and playing golf. I started lifting weights when I was a freshman in high school and instantly fell in love with it. I loved that old gym we worked out in every day after school. I can still picture it in my head and have many great memories from that place. I have played golf since I was a little kid. Golf was all I did every summer growing up and I made many friends on the golf course. I played golf all four years in high school and miss playing a lot. My family has been my biggest support group. I love my mom and dad very much and they have done so much for me growing up. I also have two brothers. One in high school and one in middle school. I have made many friends here at Ohio State that share the same interests as me. Dunn Sport and Wellness Scholars has allowed me to meet many new people and make life long friendships.

Year in Review

It is unbelievable that two years of college have already passed by. I have experienced many things from my time here at Ohio State. I have been to a lot of fun games and a few amazing concerts. I have survived some very hard classes and even switched my major. I have made many friends who I will be in touch with the rest of my life. I have definitely matured since I started school here. I have learned that to survive in college you must be self motivated and an extremely hard worker. My parents are not here anymore so I have to be able to handle myself. One thing I have learned is that close friends are a must to be a happy person. Being sad to me is equal to being lonely and I must avoid being lonely. Dunn Scholars is something I am proud of and am very happy to say I was a part of. I have learned a lot about what it takes to be a leader through this program. The Dunn Scholars class my first semester of college was very helpful to me by teaching me how to work with others and how to develop my values. Many people have come to speak to us who are in impressive positions and have the same interests as me. I have enjoyed hearing about the careers of these people and how they live their every day personal lives. Maybe someday I will be talking to a group of young people about my life like these people have talked to us. One lesson I have learned through Dunn Scholars and college in general is the importance of finding a career you love and doing something you are excited to do everyday. If you have a job you hate you will be a very miserable person. If I have something I love to do, I am not worried about how much money I will make. I am very sad about Dunn Scholars being over. I will miss seeing everyone and will miss the whole process of the program. I will be proud to say I was a part of Dunn Scholars.

Artifacts

A blank paint canvas is something that could represent my first year at Ohio State. I came here not having a clue in the world of what to expect. I am in a completely different environment from what I grew up in and I was not sure if I would like it. There is more people on this campus then there are in the town I grew up in so I was not used to being around so much hustle and bustle. I did not have many friends coming in to my first year so that was also something that concerned me. As I look back on my first year, I realize how much I have changed and how much I have learned. Just like a paint canvas, I have been changed and molded into something different and new. I have met many new people from all walks of life and my mind has been opened to how different other people have been raised. I have made many new friends that I will keep in contact with for the rest of my life. I have learned many new things through my classes and also some useful city smarts as well. I have had some amazing experiences like my first Ohio State Michigan game and finally going to the Arnold Classic which I have wanted to go to since I was thirteen years old. Even simple experiences are memorable like the first time I used an uber. All in all, my first year at Ohio State has changed me as a person for the better. I am so blessed to be able to come here for  school and would not want it any other way.
