Cross Country — I started running cross country seven years ago, and after it ended last year, I really have noticed the impact it had on my life. Cross country made me into the leader I am today. From watching great captains in front of me, and put forth my effort to being the best captain I could. I didn’t just push my team at practice, and at races, but also in school and outside of school. If not for cross country, I don’t believe I would be where I am today. Without it, I would not have my leadership skills and I wouldn’t have the same character that I have today. I was never the best at the sport, but I persevered and put forth my best effort and gained skills and formed relationships that will last a lifetime.

Confidence — During the first semester of school, I have continuously kept this quote in my mind. Coming into college, I was extremely nervous about every aspect. With this quote, I stepped out of my comfort zone and talked to people I wouldn’t have talked to otherwise. With this quote, I went into the classes I was petrified to take, and I tried my best. A few weeks out from the end of my first semester, I have been extremely challenged, but this quote has kept me going. I know that through finals and into the rest of my life, I will keep this quote near. I know for a fact that because of this quote, I have made the friends, gotten the grades, and definitely have gained the confidence that I now have with this quote.

Max Halpert    Humanitarian Engineering

Hello! My name is Max Halpert, and I am a Freshman in the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars Program at The Ohio State University. I am currently undecided on a major, but am leaning toward a future in engineering. I come from Beachwood, Ohio, a small suburb of Cleveland. I ran cross-country in high school, as well as playing baseball and tennis. I enjoy being active and playing sports, as well as watching sports. My goals for the near future, are to travel abroad and learn and take classes in a different country. I also want to participate in internships and co-ops that will give me experience before I really join the workforce after graduating. I am an easy-going person that loves to learn and try many different things. I love hands on activities that involve building and putting things together.
