Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I would like to take advantage of the DIS study abroad program in Scandinavia, where I can increase my global awareness and study Neuroscience in a completely different environment half a world away as well as explore Europe.
Original Inquiry: I would love to join a research lab to do research both during the school year and in the summer, as well as get even more involved with clubs such as BRAIN (Buckeyes Raising Awareness in Neuroscience), which fundraises for neurological diseases and connects students with volunteering opportunities in the neurological unit of hospitals.
Academic Enrichment: I will meet with Christine and Dr. Campbell to develop a four year curriculum that challenges me but will allow me to learn as much as possible.  This may include plenty of honors classes or taking classes outside of my field of study to increase my all-around knowledge.
Leadership Development: I am the captain of the BRAIN BuckeyeThon team which allows me to go to both BuckeyeThon and BRAIN meetings and connect members of BRAIN to the fashion show, dance marathon, and the other activities BuckeyeThon puts on over the school year.  I am also going to apply to be a Neuroscience Ambassador this Spring.
Service Engagement: I will continue to volunteer both during the school year and over the summer through OhioHealth, and maybe try expanding to the Wexner Medical Center, the James, or Nationwide Children’s.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Artifacts

My roommates and I recently got a baby betta fish named Gonnie.  In my behavioral neuroscience class, we have been learning about the mechanisms of learning and how it occurs on a molecular level.  Using this knowledge as well as different fish-training techniques, I am attempting to teach Gonnie tricks, like swimming through a hoop, while he is still young and learning is easier for him.

About Me

Hello! My name is Meg and I am a first year Neuroscience major in the honors program.  I am from Dublin, Ohio and attended Dublin Jerome High School.  I love dogs, traveling with my friends and family, volunteering at the hospital, and getting involved in lots of school activities.   In high school I enjoyed getting involved in lots of school activities such as the Principal’s Advisory Counsel, National Honor Society, peer tutoring, and Celtic Connections, where I got the amazing opportunity to hang out with and really get to know students with special needs.  I also love to golf, ski race, and play piano.  Since August, I have joined Buckeyes Raising Awareness in Neuroscience, and I am their BuckeyeThon team captain.  I cannot wait to explore all of the opportunities OSU has to offer throughout the next four years.
