Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: I chose to go to Ohio State University as I thought that it would give me great opportunities to meet different types of people and grow as a person. I plan to take classes that teach me about cultures other than my own. Since I have been here I have met so many different people and became friends with so many people that come from amazingly different backstories than me. I plan to continue this throughout my college career and into the future.
  • Original Inquiry: Since I am in the Neuroscience program, I am going to try and start doing research as soon as I can. I want to be able to discover something that no one has ever known before. I hope that I will be able to find the right lab for me so that I will be able to be passionate about my research. I am really interested in Alzheimer’s and if there is any way that I would be able to find a lab that does research in that, I would be ecstatic. I am also interested in a lot of other biological fiends including molecular genetics so I will be passionate about any of these labs.
  • Academic Enrichment:  I plan on taking a lot of different high level courses as I will have to take a lot for my major, but I will also try to pursue a music minor. I hope to be able to take some higher level music theory in addition to my neuroscience classes. I have passions outside of that including philosophy and I hope that I will be able to take a diverse amount of rigorous classes to further my education.
  • Leadership Development: I still am trying to find a club that I want to invest a lot of time into. I also am interested in joining a blue grass club or creating my own as I play the Banjo. I was a leader on the football team at my high school and I will most likely be participating in intramural sports, and I hope to lead in that way. I want to also lead by example in my classrooms by being a fun yet dedicated guy that my classmates can rely on.
  • Service Engagement: Since I am premed, I plan on volunteering a lot at a local hospital in the area. I also am part of a church and young life so I will try and find as many service opportunities as I can through those organizations. I want to be able to help the people that are a part of my community that I have been in since I was a kid.

Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen.
