Research Memo

  1. I have learned from observing my student uses the Zone of Proximal Development of having a teacher modeling a math problem and help his table mates if they didn’t understand it. My student does really well with connecting important things from the book with the class and be able to understand the book that is being read to him. My student that I observed does well with having things modeled for him to understand and learn more with examples in the classroom.
  2.  Does your ME do a brain break in between?, Do the kids do a math lesson in the morning or after recess?
  3. New thoughts that I have now is that my student is able to use critical thinking skills by applying previous knowledge to class work he has done in the classroom and it allows him to understand new information that he is able to build on what he already knows.
  4. A quote that makes a connection to my research question would be how “Rituals support  children in the transition from outdoors and indoors and between learning experiences and times of the day”(Burman, 2023, pg. 36). It connects to my research question how Marshall  and the rest of the class would be introduced to a brain break that would allow to calm themselves and be ready for the next part of the lesson. Another quote that makes a connection to my research question would be how “Educators want to support children’s agency to notice, name ideas and strategies that are helpful to their learning. They intentionally model the practice to see what they notice how the learning process becomes visible to the children” (Burman, 2023, pg. 50). It connects to my research question how Marshall was able to see how the teacher was able to model the math problem and walk through the problem with the students. This would be a good way for Marshall to see how the problem was being solved step by step when he was having a hard time on how to first start the problem. It connects to my research question because it shows how Marshall was able to ask his teacher for help and give him an example of how to do the math problem another way.
