How does the microbiome influence health and disease?
Our lab examines the role of the gut and urine microbiome in diseases with the goal of understanding how the microbiome shapes disease susceptibility and pathogenesis. We study diseases that affect humans and animals and evaluate disease processes at both individual and population health levels. Our lab employs a combination of field work, clinical and population data, molecular lab work, gnotobiotic models, multi-omic technologies, and bioinformatics to understand how microbial communities interact with hosts. Ultimately, these insights reveal ways in which we can manipulate the microbiome in order to prevent or treat disease.
A few of the areas we work in:
- Bladder cancer
- Pesticide-microbe interactions
- Clostridial diseases
