Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

On Saturday October 26, JT David and I went to a quaint little breakfast restaurant called Nancy’s Home Cooking. The restaurant is somewhere North of the main campus, and we had to take a bus to get there. It was a  tiny little joint run by one family. I would say that the most enjoyable thing about this place was the atmosphere and the food. I had a giant blueberry pancake with butter and it was very good. If we were given this assignment again, I would probably find another locally run restaurant like this again, or maybe go on a day that wasn’t raining a ton so that the bus wouldn’t leave us in the rain for so long. As for how this experience affected me, I will definitely bring either my family or my girlfriend their sometime in the near future. Hear is a picture of JT, David, and me around one of the “bar” style tables.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Artifacts

Robotics – Robotics during high school was a competition between multiple high schools. The challenge was to create the strongest bot to destroy all others. The event took about 8 months to prep for and all led up to one day. My team, in the three years I had done it, had never won, but did come close to winning one year. This competition and the time spent prepping for it was important to me because it was a taste of engineering that was “next level.” I was never able to put much money on my own projects at home, so my projects were a tier lower than the ones sponsored by a company. Every year we learned something different from our loss the previous year. The two most memorable lessons would be shaft thickness for our weapon as well as angled armors effect on the bot’s ability to compete. This competitions connection to academics is important because a lot of my classes in high school and even now are based on a lot of work all leading up to one final moment that could determine everything.

About Me

I am Aidan Hahn, a first year student here at Ohio State University. My intended major is Mechanical Engineering. On campus I am involved in a racquet ball club, a Flight club, and a board to death club. I have plans to join engineering without borders next semester when my schedule allows for it. Academically, I am challenging myself by trying to become mechanical engineer, and I may pursue a minor in humanitarian engineering. My goal is a rather simple goal: I want to grow and expand my understanding of the world around me and how I can add to it. I want to put my mind and intelligence to the betterment of the world. I have grown up with many wonderful role models. My grandfather made himself and showed me what true hard work can accomplish. My dad showed me how a good work ethic can make all the difference. If I ever become anything like them, I know that I will be as successfully as they have been. I also hope that one day I can be a role model to others as they have been to me.

Top 5 Strengths:

  1. Love – I definitely found this to be the most unlikely of top 5 strengths because I have never found myself to be the most “open” for emotion. I can say though that in the past few months of my life I have been opening up to people and forming great and stronger bonds with friends and family.
  2. Creativity – I most certainly have a love for creativity and creation. I knew it was a strength, but I didn’t have much of an outlet for creativity until I discovered some new hobbies. For example I have taken under a lot of things such as rocketry and even making Bluetooth speakers (the shell not the electronics even though I do both).
  3. Appreciation of Beauty & Excellence – I have always loved the outdoors and the beauty of forests and natural landscape. I even have a sense of shock and awe when I view the beauty of historical landmarks like Machu Picchu and the mountain it is built upon.
  4. Curiosity – My curiosity can be both a strength and a weakness. Leading me to new parts of my life or distracting me from more important matters, curiosity has been my most controversial strength.
  5. Humor – Humor, I would say, has been important to me because it has gotten me through some rough points in my life. While it is a cliché, humor has been a sort of lifeline for me.
