Sophomore year has been a whirlwind of emotions and new challenges. In working toward the goals that I set freshman year, I have come to realize that I have almost met all of the goals. For my global awareness, I had mentioned that I wanted to study abroad and learn ways to bring medicine to others. I am going to Peru this summer to work in medical clinics for those who do not have proper access to healthcare. This will also help with immersing myself in a new culture as I will get a few days to explore the surrounding cities and be able to visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World at Machu Picchu. I have always wanted to be a better leader, and I have made some strong steps in becoming one. I was selected to be Resident Advisor next year, and I cannot be more excited for this opportunity. I will be able to help new first-year students transition from high school to college here at Ohio State. I think it will be a great opportunity to be a mentor, as well as a leader. I have also been elected to the Executive Board of Volunteers Around the World at Ohio State, which is the club that I will be going with to Peru this summer. I will be the Events Director, helping to coordinate events for the club and setting up volunteer events for club members on campus. I have also taken some strides in service along with being a member of Volunteers Around the World. For the past two semesters, I have been a volunteer at the Wexner Medical Center here at Ohio State. I have held the position as a University Hospital Ambassador, which entails escorting patients, family members, and anyone else who comes to the information desk to their proper location. While it may seem like a very small job, it is very important to have the position that I hold to help the hospital function in a smooth manner.
I am still working on taking challenging courses. Organic Chemistry has been no joke, and has really pushed me to my limits, and also creating new limits at the same time. It has helped me to better my study skills, as well as help with my problem solving abilities. I am also still trying to figure out what I want to do for research. I haven’t found any topics that stick out to me, but I am hoping to find something in the next year or so and get myself established in a lab somewhere.
Being at Ohio State has opened me up to many opportunities that I could have never imagined getting at any other university. I am very grateful for what has transpired here, and I am looking forward to the next two years at Ohio State
