Global Awareness

Through my general course work that all engineering majors are required to take, I will be prepared to cultivate appreciation for diversity by meeting and learning about a vast variety of different people. Meeting people from very different places than my hometown will also result in their life experiences differing from mine, which will allow me to learn about their life and gain a new perspective on diversity. Being apart of Society of Women in Engineering will also allow me to relate to other types of women that share the same interest of engineering while also being drastically different in other areas of life.

Original Inquiry

As an undergraduate student, I wish to take part in research and internships that will broaden my horizons of what sustainable engineering and infrastructure through civil engineering means and what it may look like in real world instances. I also hope to be apart of advanced course work that will challenge my thinking and allow me to grow in my passion for sustainability and improving in that aspect of engineering. Whether it be in research, internships, or advanced coursework projects, I hope to find my place where I can thrive most in the learning environment.

Academic Enrichment

I chose to major in Civil Engineering because it collides my love for infrastructure in the aspect of planning and building, with the idea of improving every day systems that everyone uses. I also have noticed a rising in the significance of sustainability and realized that I also have a desire to learn more about that. It is interesting to me that these two things can be used together to enhance our everyday systems while also caring for the environment. I have selected the Ethics of Engineering course for spring of 2021 because this course will allow me to experience more of what the engineering field entails and I am excited to learn more about it. I have selected courses in a way that will commit to excellence through challenging me while also being an aid for what I am interested in and will move me toward my goal of earning more about sustainability and infrastructure.

Leadership Development

Aside from the scholars program, I am also involved in Society of Women in Engineering and hope to get involved in American Society of Civil Engineers. Eventually, I hope to obtain a leadership role in one of these organizations that will enhance my leadership skills and push me to become more of a leader in a real world role. My involvement will help develop my leadership skills by challenging me to become more outspoken about my passions as well as challenge my instinct to work alone. My involvement will relate to my personal goals and my career goals by connecting me with people of similar interest and future goals. I will relate to those who share the same passion and by surrounding myself with like minded people, this will also enhance me toward pursuing my goals.

Service Engagement

Again, I am involved in service through the scholars program as well as in the Society of Women in Engineering. I hope to be apart of projects and commitments that are services for the community as well as the environment. I plan to work with the community and other like minded people to improve the state of our environment as well as engaging in the well being of the community and others. My involvement in service has helped my understanding of the social issue of environmental degradation. This is through the educational resources that I have experienced in the scholars program.
