Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

What do each of the G.O.A.L.S. terms mean to you?  What do you plan to do to work toward each of the G.O.A.L.S.?

  • Global Awareness: As someone double majoring in political science and international studies, I plan on trying to learn as much about the world as possible. I really want to go into a career that works with people around the world and be involved with global politics. I believe in order to do that I need to be able to understand and learn how other cultures differ from mine. I plan on being involved in many cultural clubs beginning with my current Morrill Scholars program to increase diversity at OSU and hopefully later on in my local community. I also plan to study abroad at one point to fully immerse myself in a different culture and officially be fluent in a third language.
  • Original Inquiry: I’m not sure what opportunities lie for me in research, but I am willing to expand my horizons and go out of my comfort zone to be a part of a research project that will benefit the masses. I would definitely consider conducting  different types of social experiments such as experiments that try to prove theories about the evolution of the still-existing discrimination in our society today.
  • Academic Enrichment: Growing up in a family that prioritized academics above everything else, I am determined to continue my strong work ethic in college so that I will not only excel in all of my classes but utilize everything in I learn to propel me into a successful career. I plan on taking advantage of valuable opportunities that OSU presents me in order to gain as much experience as possible so that I will be prepared for whatever my future career holds. These opportunities may include study abroad programs or internships (hopefully in government-related jobs such as campaigns or other social justice activism groups).
  • Leadership Development: In high school I was very involved with Student Council, newspaper, diversity, and other clubs that promoted unity and school spirit throughout my school. I plan on continuing my heavy involvement in extracurricular activities because I believe they are a great way of building leadership, communication, and team-building skills that would be beneficial in the future. Also they’re a fun and excellent way to connect with people similar and different to myself!
  • Service Engagement: Currently I am in the Morrill Scholars group for community service, and I plan on being involved in that group for the rest of my time here and possibly lead my own group. Community service is incredibly important to me, and I plan on doing service projects that not only provide basic necessities to people in need but people who struggle from issues like mental health, racial/gender/sexuality discrimination, and victims of sexual assault. I specifically want to do something about mental health issues in Asian Americans, especially for first-generation immigrants like myself.

Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements.
