Dr. Gur received both her MD and PhD at the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied the effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) on neurogenesis in the laboratory of Dr. Julie Blendy. She completed her clinical training in the Research Track of the Psychiatry Residency program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she honed her research interests in women’s mental health. Her clinical work at Ohio State focuses on perinatal and postnatal depression and anxiety, which dovetails with her research interest in Women’s Health and on the effect of prenatal stress on neurodevelopment. She uses a variety of approaches to investigate the microbiome, neuroinflammation, and behavior. Her lab conducts both preclinical (rodent) studies and clinical studies. She is also the Endowed Director of the Soter Women’s Health Research Program, which is devoted to bridging the current gap in Women’s health by discovering and delivering new therapies to prevent and treat diseases that disproportionally burden Women across their lifespan. In addition to her clinical work and research efforts, Dr. Gur enjoys working with the next generation of Physician Scientists as her role as Associate Director of the NIH-funded MSTP program.
