Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

In order to be a Honors & Scholars student at The Ohio State University, I will strive to meet the five G.O.A.L.S.: Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement. To achieve Global Awareness, I will take Spanish literature and culture classes over and above the required courses to become functionally fluent in the language. Through these classes, I hope to be able to delve much further into the culture practiced by millions of people around the globe than I was able to during my high school experience and develop an appreciation for the myriad cultures that exist within the Spanish-speaking world.

Original Inquiry encompasses many different aspects of the human intellect like inquisitiveness which leads to research, creativity which leads to performance, and the ability to learn from others about subjects we are passionate for. I personally will try to pursue research either in a lab or as an assistant for one or multiple of the many enthusiastic and intelligent professors at The Ohio State University. I will also be taking advanced coursework up into the 5000s and  to try and understand the intricate processes of the human body to a higher degree than what is necessarily required for medical school.

I will partake in Academic Enrichment, once again, by taking advanced, rigorous coursework up into the 5000s and electing for the Honors or Integrated options whenever possible. By doing this, I am giving myself more and better opportunities to achieve academic excellence and succeed academically during my undergraduate study. I am interested in taking an “ethics in medicine” class to help me understand what must be avoided in a clinical setting to make sure that care is provided in a safe and morally unambiguous way.

To demonstrate Leadership Development, I will try to take charge during group projects in order to make sure every one is doing a roughly equal share of the work and ensuring that the project as a whole is of high quality. This will translate to when I am conducting my own research or starting to perform my own clinical trials on patients.

Service Engagement is a commitment to the community and as such I wish to give back to the community by volunteering at local outpatient centers as well as the University hospitals (the Wexner and the James). I would also like to help raise money for fighting pediatric cancer in conjunction with Buckeyethon.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen.
