Three Takeaways from ESLTECH 2011 class

This semester I took a 7-week class called “Keys to Online Success.” Here are a few of my takeaways from my time spent in this class:

Time Management

In week 3  we learned a lot about time management.  One of the readings which was really helpful for me was the 6 Time Management Tips for Online Students by Lauren Landry.  I  was somebody who didn’t used any kind of schedule, so I often procrastinated  and didn’t use my time wisely. But setting up a schedule  on the Trello app  which was introduced in this course has helped me in managing my time better. I also followed the tips of asking help from peers and rewarding myself when I complete some task. This tips have helped me in improving my time management skills.

Effective Note Taking

During week 4 we learned a lot about Note Taking strategies. After reading the assigned reading, Taking Notes and Strategies, I found that I was already using the abbreviations strategy. Three note taking models were also introduced in this reading. I liked the mind map model which could help me in creating visually appealing notes. As I am a visual learner, I felt that this model would work best for me. I have been using it since the last two weeks and it works great for me.

S.M.A.R.T. goals

One of my key takeaways from this course is that I have learned to create good goals.  Writing goals down and trying to achieve them has really helped me .The S.M.A.R.T. goals  reading has helped me to set realistic goals.  I use the Trello app for writing S.M.A.R.T. goals. Every alternate day I use the app to write down short and long term goals.  This has really helped me in completing more work than I used to do before.
