G.O.A.L.S.

I plan to work towards Global Awareness by getting more active on campus movements that pertain to international peoples. For example, I am currently active in and plan to be more active in OSUDivest and their efforts to ask the university to divest from companies that enable and profit from human rights violations around the world. I also hope to take classes that allow me to view the world more broadly, like Slavic Languages and Literature 4800–a class that analyzes the experiences of bilingual people around the world. I also hope to participate in events that reflect my Indian heritage, like Diwali and other cultural events.

I plan to work towards Original Inquiry by doing research in Linguistics and Aerospace Engineering. I am already currently involved with a study with Dr. Kiwako Ito of the Linguistics department and I hope to pursue this further. In addition, I would like to do my own research in this field and hope to achieve some new insights into the subfield of Computational Linguistics. I would also like to participate in S.T.E.P. as a pathway to start some research in my major field of Aerospace Engineering and possibly gain some contacts and experience in this field as well.

My Academic Plan will help me create a program of study that benefits my academic needs because I will be able to take various STEM courses that pertain to my major, but also upper-division Humanities courses that will allow me to be a more well-rounded student. I chose the major I chose because I love science and I would love using science to further and innovate existing technologies and make a lasting impact on the world and I believe that my time here at Ohio State will help me achieve that. I am incredibly excited to take Philosophy 3261–Fundamentals of Existentialism–because I am a big fan of existential philosophies and hope to pursue this passion further. I hope that my course selections show that I want to pursue many different passions while still maintaining a high level of academics.

I hope to be a leader and be very involved outside the classroom. I am currently involved in SHADES, an organization that empowers LGBTQ people of color, as the social media director and I hope to ascend to the role of president in coming years. In addition, I hope to further my involvement in political societies like the International Student Organization or clubs like FemUnity or PRIDE.

I hope to make a lasting impact on the community by continuing working with SHADES and other organizations around campus. In addition, I hope to improve ties between the Columbus LGBTQ community and the OSU LGBTQ community by my involvement in these organizations. I am hoping that my work, like a presentation at Buckeye Soup on behalf of SHADES to sponsor a panel that may help further this campus’ commitment to diversity and inclusion.
