Second Semester Interview

Tatianna Brown is a first year Premedical student. They are not currently enjoying their major as they feel it is extremely competitive and stressful. Growing up there was a lot of pressure to be a doctor. Since first semester Tati’s career plans have changed from becoming a doctor to pursuing their PhD in English education. For undergraduate they want to change their major to a degree in English with concentration in Pre-Education and minors in Womens Gender and Sexuality Studies and psychology. They don’t feel passionate about medicine and have always wanted to pursue teaching English at a college level. They have always loved reading, creativity and having “grey area” for interpretation. English allows for that where science has one right answer. Tati hasn’t gotten very involved with clubs and teams on campus due to rigorous academic schedules and balancing part time work. They enjoyed their first semester in ACES; they were not as involved as they thought they were going to be, but still enjoyed the program. The most enjoyable part of the scholar program for them was the living learning community. This helped Tati establish a friend group that eased their transition to college. They lived with Vivienne, another student in our scholar program. Tati was adamant that having an ACES member as the residences advisor on the floor was invaluable. Not only did this help the adjustment to dork living but also their residence advisor could answer any scholar program related questions as well. Tati’s favorite memory from last semester was having a game night with second year Megan Haggerty, and first years Kaelan Manning and Vivienne Garner. They love all the connections they’ve made with other ACEs students. It has enriched their experience in their first year. The most surprising aspect of Tati’s career at Ohio State is how much they have enjoyed being here. They wanted to go out of state originally and venture away from home but have thoroughly enjoyed to community they have built here. They are excited for next year to get involved in clubs like best buddies which they participated in during high school.
