Project Description

After interviewing my design mentor, Kayla Goins, I knew her gift had to involve a kitchen environment. Her passion for cooking was not only a hot topic during our conversation, but something that she also shares with the world through social media. Her Instagram page, “Kayla’s College Eats”, holds numerous recipes that she has made and rated throughout the past years. Combing this information with her favorite quote provided the perfect idea for a personalized gift that she would be able to use in her daily life. Corinthians 13:4 defines what exactly love is and what love isn’t. This information allowed my cookbook concept to flourish as the love that is expressed through cooking can be seen as a symbol of care and affection. To embody these ideas, I created Ai files that were used with the laser to accomplish a design that would resonate with Kayla. I then filled in the table of contents with recipes that she has made and added a pocket for other family recipes or food inspiration pictures. Ultimately, the gift and container are interdependent within this design. The container is the cookbook itself as it allows for the love language of cooking to be expressed. This also means that all of the recipes inside are a gift to others upon completion.
