Project Description

Exploring the relationship between 2D shapes and 3D forms led me into creating dynamic nets. Doing so provided an explanation as to why each form gets constructed how it does. Experimenting with different shapes allowed me to find which would be most intriguing within this composition. That being said, I decided to use triangles to create an icosahedron because of how many sides and edges they have. This allowed for multiple different ways that I could merge them together. I wanted to create some sort of imagery that was dynamic and creative. During this process, I struggled to fit everything together in a visually satisfying way due to the difference in scale between forms. I was drawn to the idea of all icosahedrons leaning onto the largest, like the typical family structure. The repetition of each 3D form supported this concept and added to the idea of being close-knit. Focusing on contrast, asymmetry, scale, and placement aided the design as a whole. This evoked emotions of support and harmony since they all work together to stay in balance. If one were missing, the composition would not be able to stand on its own; they belong together.
