Tyler Shannon, B.S.
Research Associate
Ty is a researcher who got his bachelor’s from West Virginia University and his associates at Hocking College. He studied wildlife and fisheries resources management with a minor in conservation ecology. His interest in research began at West Virginia University while volunteering for Hellbender and Trout studies in a lab. Ty previously worked for ULAR providing husbandry for research animals and AMSL helping run qPCR for covid tests at OSU. Ty enjoys hiking the Appalachian mountains, going for runs, and spending time with friends in his free time. Ty joined the Gu lab in March of 2022.
Margo Shen, B.S.
Research Assistant, D.V.M Candidate, Class of 2026
Margo is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) candidate at tOSU CVM Class of 2026. She is a recent graduate from Emory University with a double major in Biology (BS) and Theater Studies (BA). Margo’s previous research experience on the difference in motor units between free moving and trained movement at Emory stimulated her interest in specializing in neurology or lab animal medicine after vet school. She joined the Gu Lab to extend her neuroscience knowledge and study epilepsy with a mouse model. She is keen to learn more coding skills, such as machine learning, outside of veterinary medicine. In her free time, she enjoyed playing with her kitten, golfing, and exploring Columbus with friends.
Yoon-Jae Yi, M.S.
Graduate Research Fellow and Neuroscience Doctoral Student
Yoon-Jae is from Dayton, Ohio and is currently pursuing a PhD in the Neuroscience Graduate Program. He completed his undergraduate studies in 2021 with a B.S in Psychology with a Behavioral Neuroscience Concentration, a B.A. in French, and a minor in Biological Sciences at Wright State University. He then went on to receive his M.S in Translational Pharmacology here at The Ohio State University in 2023. Yoon-Jae has experience conducting research in academia and industry in diverse fields of interest such as drug discovery, microbiology, nanotechnology, and neuroscience. Yoon-Jae loves to travel the world, mostly to eat new foods, and has a passion for Formula 1, going to concerts, taking naps, drinking diet coke, and listening to Taylor Swift. Yoon-Jae lives by the philosophy of serving others and hopes to leave a positive impact in the world through his research.
Noora Rajjoub
Undergraduate Volunteer Researcher
Noora is a second year specializing in Systems and Behavioral Neuroscience with a minor in Arabic, on the pre-medical track. She is very interested in learning more about the mechanisms underlying seizures and epilepsies. In her free time, she likes to play tennis, bike around Columbus, bake desserts, and spend time with her family and friends!
Jaden Zelidon
Undergraduate Volunteer Researcher
Jaden is a first year neuroscience major with a business minor on the pre-medicine track. He is very interested in expanding his knowledge surrounding neurological disorders, and was drawn to the Gu Lab because of the work with epilepsy research. In his free time, Jaden enjoys playing piano, swimming, learning to cook, and traveling/exploring with friends and family.
Natalie Stover
Undergraduate Volunteer Researcher
Natalie is an undergraduate student majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Eastern and Slavic Languages at The Ohio State University. She is on the pre-PhD track and hopes to become a Neuroscience researcher to find treatments for a variety of neurological disorders. Her research interests include neuroimmunological disorders, SUDEP, and biomarker research. Natalie joined the Gu Lab in order to grow her skills in computational, cellular and molecular, and in-vivo research while contributing to the search for a cure for SUDEP. In her free time, Natalie enjoys playing guitar, rock climbing/working out, and spending time with family and friends.
Jaden Thomas
Undergraduate Volunteer Researcher
Jaden is a fourth-year majoring in Data Analytics with a specialization in biomedical and public health analytics. He is very interested in statistics and data visualization, especially in the biomedical field. Jaden likes to watch and play baseball, go on walks, and hang out with friends and family.
Mariam Najeeb
Undergraduate Volunteer Researcher
I am a second-year neuroscience major on the pre-med track. I decided to join Dr.Gu’s lab because I am very interested in seizure research and always looking for opportunities to help people that are living with the daily struggle of having epilepsy. Outside of the lab, I love reading, going on hikes, and trying new things!
