Hair // Lady Gaga
This is my all time favorite Lady Gaga song. Ever since I watched her do a tribute with this song to a fan who killed himself and bawled for a half hour afterwards, it has a place in my heart. It is uplifting, and it empowers you to live freely and without judgment.
Born This Way // Lady Gaga
This song literally saved my life. When I was going through tough gay times, I blasted this song on repeat, and it reminded me that I am to be ok with who I am. The lyrics really hit home. This song is the reason I became obsessed.
Marry the Night // Lady Gaga
This song is about going after what you want and taking life by the balls. It’s beat and synths are very driving, which is inspirational. I love this lady and this message.
Gypsy // Lady Gaga
This song is about traveling the world, but also having something to come home to. I would love to travel the world and spread my art. I also know that if I want to come home, I have plenty to come back to.
Immortal // Marina and the Diamonds
This song represents all the fears I have about life and getting over them. She sings about not wanting to die and how she wants to see more of life, but we all die. You just gotta let it happen.
Run Away With Me // Carly Rae Jepsen
This here song is just a fun tune. It talks about just getting up and leaving everything behind to be with the one you love. I would love to do that some day, but first I need to be financially stable.
Unconditionally // Katy Perry
This is the song that inspired me to come out. “Acceptance is the key to be truly free” is the line that I drew the courage from. I needed to accept myself before I would be totally ok. It’s also about loving someone without conditions, and I know my mom does that, which is why I told her first.
Never Let Me Go // Florence + the Machine
This song arises a conflict within me. It makes me feel so alone, but also so wanted. When I directed the music video in my head, I imagined me standing in the middle of the Shoe alone and screaming the lyrics, but I knew someone was listening. It gives me the feelies.
For Good // Glinda and Elphaba
This song from Wicked aligns very closely with my thoughts. People come and go in life, and they leave a piece of themselves with you. Whether that thing be good or bad, it has still changed you, and that’s what I appreciate about people in general.
Let Me Be Your Star // Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty
This song is from one of my favorite T.V. shows, SMASH, which sadly was cancelled after 2 seasons. In the scene in which this song is sung, Karen and Ivy are competing for the attention of the directors to make them cast them as the lead in their new musical. This coincides with my actor life as I always want to be the star of the show.
