Lab 02

This lab was divided into two sections. The first part focused on using the reflectance sensor. The new aurdino command, reflectanceSensorTest(), runs a test to make sure that the sensor is getting readings. As it turned out the group had a malfunctioning sensor. This would have caused major problems in the future if it weren’t for this test. Then by using the sensor two new commands, goToRelativePosition and goToAbsolutePosition, were used in order to get the AEV to run a certain set of codes until the sensors read that it had gone a certain distance. These are useful commands for completing distance oriented tasks.

The second pat of this lab focused on the efficiency of the propellers. A wind tunnel was used in order to test how efficiently the  propellers operate in their two different modes, pusher and puller. It was determined that the propellers are most efficient running in the pusher mode. These means going forward, that if possible the propellers should be ran in pusher mode to achieve maximum energy efficiency.

Reflections:

The sensors are a powerful tool to use but they are also very inconsistent and unreliable.
