The oxbow at the Wetland Research Park was constructed to resemble an area once connected to the Olentangy River. This large body of water allows for prime habitat for many waterfowl bird species. Oxbow lakes are areas disconnected from the river, but these allow for excellent nutrient and sediment filtration. Species diversity is at its highest within oxbow lakes because they provide good water quality.
