Winter is upon us… so in the farming world that means Cover Crops!
We planted a garden to fix nutrients such as nitrogen back into the soil and provide biomass to the soil. This garden will take the place of the pop garden and will not resemble what was previously planted. This garden will provide an educational background on cover crops and the important purpose they serve.
Cover crops are all about preparing the garden for the spring while simultaneously keeping it a vibrant, beautiful and educational space. These plants are necessary for fixing nitrogen into the soil so that any plants grown in the spring that use high amounts of nitrogen (it is incredibly likely that we will have plants like this) will not deplete the soil and will grow well.
Here are the crops that we have planted for this winter season.
