About Me

IMG_3559

My name is Max Grelson. I was born in Fairview Hospital on Easter Sunday, April 12th, 1998 and I’ve lived my entire life in Fairview Park, Ohio. I live with my Mom and Dad and my older sister Hayley, who’s two years older than me. I greatly enjoy spending time with my family and extended family as well. I’m a Roman Catholic and I take my faith seriously as I was an active member and leader in my schools youth group all throughout high school. I hope to use my Catholic values to achieve high marks in college and to inspire me to get involved and do well in every club or organization I join.

I came to The Ohio State University first and foremost to get an education, but I’m also here to broaden my horizons socially and to increase my network. I graduated from St. Ignatius High School in a class of around four hundred students so my school was large and had many things to get involved in but it doesn’t even compare to the size of OSU. As for my academic interest I’ve always loved math and science because I loved the challenge of it, it was the most fun, I loved learning how the world worked, and I always had my favorite teachers in math and science. I choose my specific major, aerospace engineering, in such a broad field because in high school we had a class competition and the one event that drew me in was a paper airplane contest that I ended up winning. I won that because I had a ton of old paper airplane books that I had collected when I was a kid and it made me realize how much I was interested in planes and flight. I plan to complete my undergrad and possibly get my masters degree along with joining aero and astro related clubs like the rocket team.

My previous careers have taught me a lot. My first job was dishwashing and that taught me that even though the work is tough and theres not a whole lot of benefits you still have a very important job that needs to get done. So I learned to work hard even if I didn’t like the work I was doing. My second and current job is life guarding. This also taught me that my job is important but in the opposite way. You aren’t often needed but when you are your job becomes very important. For a future career I plan to either work for NASA or the U.S. Military because I think its an easy way to get involved with something that could help the world.I hope to develop some new design of aircraft or engine that makes world travel more efficient. However, I don’t know where these next four years will take me.

Right now I feel I belong right here at OSU among all my STEM scholars and students. I feel it is a very healthy and supportive environment that will enable me to thrive in college. I hope this community helps me become better and I hope to make this community better as well. I plan on doing this by doing plenty of social activities, taking advantage of service opportunities, and doing things like research. In the past I’ve done local service and mission trips through my youth group and other service through my high school. So, at OSU I hope to continue this service through the STEM scholars and the Newman Center as well.
