Wexner Medical Center Volunteering

In the spring of my freshman year and as well in fall and spring of my sophomore year I volunteered at the Wexner Medical Center. Several hours a week I volunteered helping improve the patient experience. My experiences were either in the endoscopy unit, helping prepare and clean rooms for patients or acting as the hospital ambassador, helping escort patients around the hospital and to wherever they needed to go. This was an enjoyable volunteer experience because I both got to interact with people as well as familiarize myself with what it is like to work in a hospital. This very much so confirmed that I do in fact want to work in the medical field for the rest of my life.

Leadership in Cru

As a freshman I joined a christian organization on campus called Cru. Their mission is for outreach to others on campus and provide them an environment to deepen their relationship with God. As a sophomore I was offered a leadership position within the organization. My role is a higher level of outreach within my target area as well as lead small groups with my study. This has been a great experience for me and has helped me improve both my leadership skills and my social skills.

Artifacts

On August 26, a few friends of mine went and volunteered for Community Commitment as a scholars event. This is when thousands of OSU students go around the Columbus Community and volunteer. My group helped pick up trash in the residential areas off of High Street. It was eye opening to realize how much trash was left outside in the streets, especially when many of those items could have been recycled. Not that I wasn’t aware before but this experience really helped put litter on a larger scale into perspective for me and how it can affect our local environment.
