Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

[ “G.O.A.L.S.” is a place where students write about how their planned, current, and future activities may fit into the Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S.: Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement. For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Delete these instructions and add your own post.

Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.
Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.

Artifacts

ACS Periodic Table wallet card given to me by my AP Chemistry teacher.

After taking the AP Chemistry exam, my teacher for the course gave everyone in my class one of these cards. The two chemistry courses I took in high school were the most challenging and frustrating I had ever taken. Despite all this I found them to also be the most rewarding, and the AP class especially fostered my love for science. It wasn’t until I read this card, specifically “Proud To Be a Chemist”, that I realized I was or could be a scientist. To me, this card is a reminder of the hard work I put into this class and signifies my realization of wanting to be a scientist (and an engineer).

My artifact from the AU15 semester is my MATLAB textbook from my Fundamentals of Engineering class. Programming was something that I thought I would not understand and something I did not think I would like. As someone who is often nervous to try new things, MATLAB boosted my confidence. Over the semester, my proficiency grew. By the last few weeks of the semester, MATLAB had become the most enjoyable of my homework assignments, and I found that I could quickly and masterfully create code for a variety of applications. I even found I could easily help my friends debug and correct their own code. Now MATLAB makes sense to me, and it reminds me to have an open and excited opinion on trying new things.

About Me

Welcome to my page!

My name is Chas Gregory, and I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I am planning on majoring in Chemical Engineering.

My favorite subject in high school was chemistry, and I was eager to solve the challenges my teacher put forth to us in class and in homework. I was also deeply involved in my high school’s lacrosse team, where I served as captain my junior and senior years. I found it extremely rewarding to work as a team to accomplish our common goals, and I always challenged myself and other teammates to reach our highest potentials both as players and men.

I have spent the past two summers working on a ranch in Montana, where I discovered the breathtaking beauty of the American West. I eventually plan on retiring there, and I hope to concentrate at least some of my education in preserving that wonderful place whether it be working directly in the environment or in helping to develop more eco-friendly products and solutions such as batteries.
