Personal Statement

IMG_1050Hello my name is Matt Green. I am a 4th year Landscape Design student at The Ohio State University and am graduating in spring of 2016. Horticulture has always been a big passion of mine which is why I started up a landscaping business when I was 12 years old. As I got older I realized this is what I want to do with my life so I sold my business at age 18 to attend Ohio State. Although it was one of my toughest decisions to make I would not have chosen differently if given a second chance. Furthering my education in landscape design and horticulture was more important to me than running a small business back home.

Attending The Ohio State University taught me the importance of getting out of my comfort zone and to take advantage of opportunities when they arise. One of my biggest adventures was when went on a study abroad to England in order to learn more about history of horticultural practices over there. I was also able to travel around the rest of the United Kingdom with a group of peers even though that was not originally included in trip. This was the first time I ever left the country and it was such an amazing experience to make friends with people from all over the world.

I have had a lot of fun in college but the important part is how much this school has helped me grow up. In college the decisions you make reflect on how you will do in class whether good or bad. It was a rough transition for me at first but once I realized the importance time management everything started to fall in place. I was able to get all my studying done while still enjoying free time. With this free time I got involved in clubs and organizations outside of school such as the Alpha Gamma Rho agricultural fraternity. Along with that I joined the horticultural fraternity Pi Alpha Xi which I am proud to say I am currently president of.  Over these last four years I have not only learned a lot about horticulture but I have also learned so much about myself.

Thank you and Go Bucks!
