Artifact Two

I am a proud member of the Mount Leadership Society Scholars program. This is an organization that focuses on strengthening leadership skills and serving the community all in memory of Ruth Weimer Mount. I am the chair of the Member Development committee which focuses on bringing together all years of Mount Scholars and forming meaningful relationships among each other. I also am completing a Year of Service at GEMS elementary school to give back to the community of Columbus which has given so much to me.

Year in Review

The past year has been a year of growth and transformation in my life. I began the year in my first architecture courses knowing little about myself as a designer. I knew I was passionate about design and I wanted to have an influence on the world, but I struggled in finding my exact path. I worked diligently in my classes and attended lectures given by famous designers until one day, inspiration struck. After hearing a lecture given by an urban design firm called Urban Lab, I was inspired to look at how urban design and architecture interacted. I soon picked up a city and regional planning minor and have since been honing my design skills in architecture, urban planning, and graphic design. I hope to one day design public spaces in urban areas with a focus on mixed use spaces. I now understand myself as a designer, and the impact I hope to have on the built environment.

G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: This summer I studied abroad to explore the history and culture of Greece. As an architecture major, going and seeing the history on which my career is founded was an incredible experience. Living in a foreign country and learning their language and culture really opened my eyes to the rest of the world. I hope to continue my travels this summer and learn as much as I can about the rest of the world.
  • Original Inquiry: This year I have had the opportunity to work closely with professors all across my college. I have met with design professionals across many fields of design including architecture, landscape architecture, city and regional planning, and graphic design. I have also begun to make contacts in the professional world of architecture. I have several architecture mentors who have helped me in my professional development and continue to help my strengthen my design skills.
  • Academic Enrichment: I am a part of a professional fraternity for architecture and the allied arts called Alpha Rho Chi. Through this organization I am able to engage in service with my community, experience professional development with architects in the Columbus area, and gain insight from mentors in my major. As the professional committee chair, I work closely with firms in the Columbus area and plan professional development events for the school of architecture.
  • Leadership Development: This year I am a committee chair working on Member Development for my scholars group. We plan large events for all 200+ members of our group and I lead a group of first and second years in what is one of their first college leadership roles. This role has been very rewarding and I am learning a lot about my committee members, my leadership style, and aspects of leadership which I have never explored before.
  • Service Engagement: This year I am completing a Year of Service with GEMS school. This is a Title One elementary school in Columbus which teaches children in low income families. This experience has been incredibly rewarding thus far. I am connecting with my students, getting them excited about school, and being the role model and support that they may not get at home. I cannot wait to continue my service with this amazing organization.

Career

With a major of Architecture and a minor of City and Regional planning, I one day hope to design mixed use public spaces in urban areas. To see my most recent work, feel free to browse my most recent portfolio, here.

Artifact One

This is the drafting kit of my grandfather on my mother’s side. He was an engineer and got this drafting kit in college at the University of Akron. He never thought he would have the opportunity to pass this heirloom down to anyone, and it made him so proud that I would be able to use this in my future career.
