With all of the buzz about Organic Chemistry being such a weed out course, I was very nervous beginning the year. I had received all sorts of advice from older peers, from what professor to take to which studying method is most effective. Now that I have made it through half of the first semester, I realize, as a happy surprise, that this is nothing like I had expected. In general chemistry, I felt as though my professor was almost out to get us. Our exams were learning based, but really preyed on little mistakes. While attention to detail is critical, I find that I am actively learning in Organic Chemistry. My professor goes through all of the concepts with us, chalk in hand, and predicts where we may be confused to exaggerate certain concepts.
Truly, the mixture of this interesting class and this amazing professor, Dr. Callam, is the most conducive learning environment that I have ever experienced. Organic Chemistry is very challenging, but the constant reinforcement by Dr. Callam’s teaching methods and his extensive practice problems have allowed me to really understand the material that I am learning. I am excited to continue with the year.
