G.O.A.L.S.

Global awareness is an essential characteristic in order to understand and appreciate the world around us. Simply confining oneself to everyday environments and experiences does not grant us a true appreciation of the global diversity that surrounds us. In order to develop my sense of global awareness, I plan to study abroad. I plan to study abroad in Spain in order to develop a true understanding of the amalgam of cultures and people that exists in the multitude of Provinces in Spain. Additionally, I plan to further pursue an education in Spanish. With the information and experiences I have in my spanish class, I can make the most of my time in Spain. Lastly, I will be volunteering in India for about a month during the summer. Since there are so many people in India, there are many who lack proper food and medication in order to survive on a daily basis. This volunteering will be very beneficial for me because I can help me understand some of the struggles others are dealing with around the world.

My life goal is to become a physician after completing my education. In order to set myself up for the greatest chance at success, I need to utilize all of the resources at my disposal. For example, there are a multitude of professors with research labs on campus. In order to explore and fulfill Original Inquiry, I plan to participate in research throughout at least two of my four years on campus. I would like to focus on any research related to either cardiology or neuroscience specifically.

It is important as an honors student to engage myself in rigorous and enriching experiences not only inside the classroom, but also outside the classroom. I plan to take many rigorous courses throughout my education that will enrich my learning experience. For example, I plan to take Honors Organic Chemistry next year. Additionally, I plan take Biochem and Organic Chemistry. Outside of the classroom, I plan to further pursue a career in medicine. I plan to shadow a variety of doctors in order to gain experience in the hospital setting. Additionally, I plan to participate in a variety of internships in the hospital throughout the summer. These internships will not only provide me with medical experience, but they will also provide me with general work and life experience.

Having the ability to lead and the ability to be a leader is a key attribute of many successful people today. Leadership not only shows one’s initiative and character, but it also shows responsibility. To fulfill my sense of leadership, I plan on trying to being a leader both inside and outside of the classroom. Inside the classroom, I plan to set a good example for others by actively engaging in classroom activities, and taking charge of discussion topics during class. Outside of class, I plan to join several clubs. In these clubs, I plan to attend every meeting and be an active member throughout the entire year. By the end of the year, I hope to hold an executive position for one or more clubs.

Helping one’s community can show his or her determination and willingness to help others. I plan to volunteer for a significant amount of time through my fours years at Ohio State. One location I plan to volunteer at is the Ronald McDonald House. In addition, I plan to volunteer a significant amount of time at the local hospitals. Lastly, I plan to volunteer during much of my free time during the summers. This volunteer will come from either volunteering in other foreign countries, or volunteering in my hometown of Centerville, Ohio.
