Personal Nursing Philosphy

I believe that the role of the school nurse has an important impact in each students health and wellness and bridges the students academic experience with their personal well being. I am passionate about cultivating a welcoming, judgment free health clinic experience while upholding the standards of professional school nursing practice.  One of my main goals is to address the whole child, meaning taking into account their interests, learning readiness, physical and mental health.

It is not only important to provide the best care for a student’s physical and mental health but it is vital to work collaboratively with the entire school community. I believe that the school nurse should always be an advocate for their students so that those students can achieve their highest optimal level of learning. I also believe in making learning fun and using evidence based data to drive my practice.

My approach to educating students is to individualize my teaching strategy to meet the needs of my student. The foundation in which I will do this will be based on clear and defined expectations, measurable outcomes and mutual respect between each student and myself. I will also collaborate with teachers and use their unique knowledge of the students to provide a positive and cohesive health plan.

I believe that my practice should always be evolving to meet the unique challenges each student may present and to represent the most updated nursing practice.
