Knowing what researching is specifically, the module goes into helpful practices when starting to research. The following is a guide for conducting research online,
- Pre- Search: Identify key concepts related to your research question, familiarize yourself with these. This will be helpful for finding good sources and understanding different facets of your topic.
- Find a good source! Look for the following things,
- Reliability: Ask yourself – are the author’s credentials listed, is there information about the publisher or information source, is the information peer reviewed?
- Quality: Does the information surpass generalizations, is the material current, is it consistent and well written?
- Utility: Is the information related to my topic, Is it insightful, is it appropriate for my audience?
- Collect Sources: this tip comes from personal experience, when working on an extensive project keep a separate document with links to all of your sources so you don’t lose track
