My Watch – This watch represents running to me. I got this watch as a present one year, and have used it on my runs ever since. I used to wear it constantly, as a reminder that I always have running when the going gets tough or I need a stress reliever. This watch is a waterproof, well-built, resilient watch – a representation of how strong I want to be as a person. It has endured through all of my runs, my walks; my laughs, my cries; my struggles and my personal bests. Running has been one of the few constants in my life, and it will forever have a place in my life.

The 4th Floor – This poster represents the floor I live on, the 4th floor of Torres House. This was created within the first few weeks of school, when our entire floor participated in a crafting night (back when we had free time to do fun things with), and we made this banner. The family was created as we all signed this and stamped our handprints on the poster with our names by them. This signifies for me the semblance of the beginnings of a real second family here at school. It was exciting to be accepted and to form a family so quickly with people I did not know who were embarking on the same journey as me. I came from out of state, so nobody from my school or anyone that I knew came here. I was excited to start over and call this place home, but a bit nervous to do it on my own. However, this floor is one of the most accepting and loving groups of people I have ever come in contact with, and they really have made a positive impact on my journey here.

About Me

FJ1A9531e2

Hello. My name is Julia Goggins, and the following post will be an attempt to let the rest of you know who I am in around 1 minute of reading time while not boring you to death. I was born on December 30, 1997. I’m assuming you’ve now done the math, but yes I am ridiculously young and am still 17 for the time being. I grew up for the most part in Shorewood, Illinois, which is just about an hour south of Chicago. I have two younger sisters, a sophomore in high school and a fifth grader. I love to stay active: volleyball is my favorite sport to play (recreationally), but I ran track and cross country throughout junior high and high school. As much as I love being active, I can also be a book worm and a music nerd. I love reading and used to play the flute in band, but now I play the piano on my own time. I was always the person who joined every club and was over involved, so I am definitely looking forward to joining a few clubs/organizations on campus–studies of course coming first. That being said, I am still ready to have a good time and enjoy the college experience (beginning with the football games I bought a season pass to.)

My studies are geared towards a major in chemical engineering, a career path I chose based on my love for math and science, specifically chemistry. I am in Humanitarian Engineering Scholars, as I felt it would allow my love of volunteering and service to be prevalent in my time here and to merge with my course studies. I am very excited to be a part of this scholars program and ready to serve the community and grow as a student through all of the opportunities provided to us. My goal for the time I will spend at Ohio State is to find a fire and a passion in the field of work I’m choosing to pursue, and to find a way I can use it to change our world for the better.
