G.O.A.L.S

Global Awareness

To develop my global awareness I will be participating in an Ohio State Global May Program, Australia: Human Impacts on the Natural Environment. I will be spending three and a half weeks touring the diverse ecosystems of Queensland, Australia. I am excited to learn about sustainability issues in Australia and how they are combating them. Environmental protection is a global issue, I plan to apply what I learn abroad to my life in the United States. I am also excited to learn about the Australian culture and values through interacting with locals.

Original Inquiry

This fall, I took a research position under Dr. Rafael Corredoira in the Fisher College of Business. Dr. Corredoira is studying the long term technical influence of federal funded patents. I contribute to the project by writing computer programs to gather desired statistics. Being a part of Dr. Corredoira’s team has given me insight into the extensive process of turning an inquiry into a published paper.

Academic Enrichment

I had a hard time deciding on a major when I first got to Ohio State. I genuinely enjoyed all of the courses I took in high school and could see myself happily pursuing many majors. My love for math and problem solving led me to choosing the Data Analytics program. I plan to specialize in business due to my interest in the technological advancements of the business world. Through my GE courses, I am able to continue my education in other areas that interest me such as, architecture, the environment, and art history. I have chosen my GE courses with a purpose other than an easy A. Ohio State has a lot to offer and I want to take full advantage.

Leadership Development

I am an active member of College Mentors for Kids, a club that brings children from Columbus City Schools to the Ohio State campus weekly. Each week, there is a different activity designed to promote secondary education, diversity and culture, or community service. Mentors are paired one-on-one with a buddy. I act as a leader and role model for my buddy. During the 2018/2019 school year, I will be taking on a bigger leadership role as Activities Director for West Franklin Elementary School. My responsibilities will consist of planning and setting up the activities each week.

Service Engagement

Throughout the year I have devoted my time to service through College Mentors for Kids, Game On: Adventure through play, and Chi Omega. I plan to continue participating in College Mentors for kids and am taking on a staff position. Game On, is a summer camp primarily for children with autism to develop their social skills in an inclusive and fun environment. I hope to be a part of the program again this summer.  Also, being a member of Chi Omega we hold many service events such as making cards or blankets to support the kids of the Make-A-Wish foundation. Members of Chi Omega also keeps me updated on other service events in the Columbus area.
