Global Teacher Seminars

This week-long seminar on The Ohio State University campus aims to inform K-12 teachers on a different theme each year related to issues in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The seminar will deepen teachers’ understanding of the different issues and challenges related to the theme facing society now and in the future, and through pedagogical training enable the incorporation of this new content into their curricula. Some countries will be used as case studies to examine particular problems, how these countries are attempting to address the problems, and an analysis of the potential outcomes.

The Global Teacher Seminar is organized by the five area studies centers that work within the Office of International Affairs at The Ohio State University with a different center taking the lead each year in partnership with the others. These include the Center for African Studies (CAS), Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS), Center for Slavic and East European Studies (CSEES), East Asian Studies Center (EASC), and the Middle East Studies Center (MESC). The Global Teacher Seminars are also supported in part by a U.S. Department of Education Title VI grant to CLAS, CSEES, and EASC.
