January 25th, 2016
Location: Faculty Club
Guest Speakers:

  • Ms. Vickie “Yiqi” Chen, Founder of Global Leadership Initiative
  • Mr. Tim Sword, President of Greater Columbus Sister Cities International
  • Mr. Ryan Radebaugh, Program Coordinator for Global Engagement, Office of International Affairs
  • Ms. Renée Bishai, Program Coordinator for Global Engagement, Office of International Affairs

This past week, we were able to host our first monthly dinner of the semester. It was a very relaxed night, where each of our members had the opportunity to catch up with each other and share with the guest speakers. The night followed with great food hosted by the Faculty Club.

A very exciting topic for GLI this semester is our 5 groups planning 5 Sister City events. The GLI Cohort members have been working very diligently in planning these events to celebrate Columbus’ sister city relationships with Curitiba, Ahmedabad, Accra, Herzliya, and Seville. These events will highlight the unique cultures of each city and what they represent. Tonight, each group had the opportunity to speak in front of our cohort and guests, and talk about their progress in planning each individual event. Be on the lookout for more information regarding these events over the next few weeks!

Below are photos highlighting our monthly dinner:

November 23rd, 2015
Location: Faculty Club
Guest Speakers:

  • Dr. Wayne E. Carlson, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies and Dean of Undergraduate Education
  • Dr. Gifty Ako-Adounvo, Interim Assistant Vice Provost for Global Strategies and International Affairs
  • Mr. Lucas Chen, Program Coordinator for International Students at Office of Student Life University Housing

For GLI’s last monthly dinner of the semester, we had the privilege of welcoming 4 honorary guests to speak to our cohort! The night opened up with Dr. Wayne E. Carlson and Dr. Gifty Ako-Adounvo giving remarks on their own personal journey to where they are today. Additionally, they tied in the importance of internationalization and cultural diversity to their stories, and supports the impact that GLI is making here. The guests and cohort were then able to enjoy the rest of the night over a warm dinner and meaningful conversations.

On behalf of GLI, we want to express many thanks to the guests for joining us for our monthly dinner. We look forward to ending the semester with our potluck next Monday, November 30th – hope to see everybody there!

Lastly, we want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!
