January 31st, 2022:
Following university guidelines, the program held our first networking dinner of the year over Zoom. Despite the online format, members came ready to participate and get to know our guest, Dr. Gil Latz! Thank you to Dr. Latz for coming to share his extraordinary path to becoming the Vice Provost for global strategies and international affair within the Office of International Affairs.
December 2nd, 2021:
Our last meeting of the 2020-2021 academic year! After playing an animated game of White Elephant, members gathered around to speak on various hot topic questions ranging from international news/ politics to pop culture phenomena! As always, the cohort demonstrated their appreciation for different cultures as well as their respect for each other during the discussions.
November 7th, 2021:
Fall of 2021, we held our annual retreat at Tim Sword’s farm. Between the amazing barbecue food, golf cart rides, and games, the 2021 cohort was able to share why they joined GLI and what they wished to gain from this experience. Thank you to Tim Sword for allowing to use the farm and for helping cultivate a space where everyone felt safe to share their life story!
October 18th, 2021:

After a year of being online, GLI was more than happy to resume our monthly dinners in person at the Faculty Club. Our cohort members were excited to not only dress up, but to have intellectually stimulating conversations with inspiring community members. This month’s guests included Ms. Nadia Kasvin, Ms. Ana Lowe, and Dr. Esther Gottlieb.
September 13th, 2021:

On September 13th, Global Leadership Initiative hosted Mrs. Maria Bibler at our first meeting of this academic year! Mrs. Bibler is both an Ohio State alum and a former Immigration Coordinator for the Office of International Affairs right here on campus. Currently, Mrs. Bibler works as a school counselor in India.
We enjoyed learning about her experiences working and living outside of the United States. As a cohort that strives to be globally minded, Bibler’s thoughts on how to adapt to unfamiliar cultures and do meaningful work overseas was priceless!
Huge thanks to Mrs. Maria Bibler for making time to see us before returning to India!
November 15th, 2020:
On Sunday, November 15th, the Global Leadership Initiative had cohort members gather in Sullivant Hall to have professional headshots taken by Stephen Zhou!
Though not all our beautiful cohort members were able to attend due to global circumstances, the beautiful smiles of the cohort members can still be found on the Global Leadership Initiative site.

October 10th, 2020:
On Saturday, October 10th, 2021, the Global Leadership Initiative had its first social event at Black Art in the Park hosted by Black Diamond Ink and HyrdoHelpers. The event gathered many Black-owned businesses and artists in Goodale Park to showcase Black ingenuity and creativity.
Those in the cohort who were comfortable in attending were able to purchase artist items from Black vendors, enjoy delicious food, and converse with amazing community entrepreneurs, all while enjoying the cool autumn weather at Goodale Park.
September 28th, 2020:
On Monday, September 28th, the Global Leadership Initiative had its first-ever monthly dinner! Virtually visited by alums Iris Cao (GLI Executive Board for 2014-2015), Stephen Zhou (GLI Executive Board for 2014-2015), Justin Lu (GLI Executive Board for 2015-2016), Juan Abel (GLI Cohort Member for 2013-2014), and Kusha Ansari (GLI Executive Board for 2018-2019).
Though not in the Faculty Center the former Global Leadership Initiative alum graced the cohort with their past experiences in the Global Leadership Initiative, how it affects them a people today and the lifelong connections they have formed thanks to the cohort.
A huge thanks to Iris Cao, Stephen Zhou, Justin Lu, Juan Abel, and Kusha Ansari for continuing to join us to teach new cohorts and for sharing their knowledge!
September 13th, 2020:

On Sunday, September 13th, the Global Leadership Initiative had its first-ever virtual retreat! A day accompanied by morning virtual yoga, a viscous Kahoot game, information related to community projects, and personal reflections on what the cohort wished to gain from this virtual year. Cohort members were able to get acquainted with each other through this unique and challenging time.
January 13th, 2020:

On January 13th, 2020, Global Leadership Initiative hosted J.M. Rayburn, city planner for the City of Dublin to learn more about the issues that affect the area around us. Rayburn, while also serving the City of Dublin, is currently serving his second term on the Fifth by Northwest Area Commission in Columbus.
The GLI cohort enjoyed an informative presentation about city planning, Dublin’s development, and the ways in which cities around the world are implementing new technology to better serve the people who live in these areas. Some hot topics of the night were the use of cloud technology, access to transportation, and how the way a city is designed directly affects the economic growth of a city.

October 21st, 2019:

On October 21st, Global Leadership Initiative hosted Sharon Schweitzer, JD, all the way from Austin, Texas, to learn about dining styles in different cultures. The cohort participated in guided dinner etiquette practices from learning the proper way to approach the table to learning how to properly eat soup. Mrs. Schweitzer is an award-winning speaker, entrepreneur, cross-cultural business expert and international etiquette expert who has taught leaders within Global 2000 and Fortune 50 companies. She is also the author of the Amazon #1 best-selling book in International Business, Access to Asia.
GLI could not be more thankful for Sharon Schweitzer for sharing her wonderful expertise and for her continuous support of our program!

This past week, Global Leadership Initiative had it’s first ever monthly networking dinner for the 2019-2020 season. We could not have been more excited to host five awesome guests:
- Kendra McSweeney: Department of Geography with interest in human-environment interactions
- Patrice Hamel: Department of Molecular Genetics with research in membrane biogenesis and the coufounder of the Trondbuss Program
- Neil Drobny: Program Director in Environment, Economics, Development, & Sustainability
- Celia Latz: Current writer and artist who has designed fashion textiles in Venice, Italy
- Gil Latz: Vice Provost for Global Strategies and International Affairs
