– Global Coal Transitions Early-Career Fellowship –
Call for Applications
The Global Coal Transitions Research Coordination Network is pleased to announce the Conference on Global Coal Transitions Early-Career Fellows Program, designed to support the attendance and participation of graduate students, post-docs, new faculty and other early-career scholars at the U.S. National Science Foundation-supported Conference on Global Coal Transitions in Columbus, Ohio, July 17-19, 2024.
Selected applicants will receive financial support to cover all or part of airfare, lodging, and conference registration fees to attend the full suite of conference activities and take part in a special half-day Early Career Fellows Workshop on July 16, 2024. Support for the Early Career Fellows Program is being generously provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
Eligibility
The Fellows program is pleased to accept applications from all individuals who meet the following criteria:
- graduate students, post-docs, new faculty and other scholars who have earned their Ph.D. (or other terminal degree) after July 16, 2019.
- Students or scholars working in social science and humanities disciplines engaged in social science or humanities-based research on Coal Transitions and related topics, including in such fields as Sociology, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Anthropology, the Scholarship of the Arts and Humanities, and many other disciplines.
- Applicants both willing and able to participate (in person) in the pre-conference workshop and full suite of conference-related activities occurring in Columbus, OH, July 16-19th, 2024.
- Applicants able to present a paper or poster at the Conference on Global Coal Transitions that provides an overview of original research, study assessment, case study, or policy implementation pertaining to topics related to the societal transition away from coal.
Scholars from groups typically underrepresented in academia or in Coal Transitions research (including those scholars from coal-impacted areas) are especially encouraged to apply.
Application Process and Deadlines
To submit an application, email the following materials as a single .pdf file to FAES-globalcoal@osu.edu by February 25th, 2024:
- A 1-page letter of interest that details your interest and experience in coal transitions-related topics and scholarly research, as well as your interest in attending this conference.
- a personal C.V. (no more than 5 pages) that includes accurate contact information including email address and a physical mailing address.
- A title, authorship, and 350-word abstract detailing a proposed oral or poster presentation at the Conference on Global Coal Transitions that provides an overview of original research, study assessment, case study, or policy implementation pertaining to topics related to the societal transition away from coal.
Applications will be reviewed by the conference organizing committee and ranked based on scoring rubric that will prioritize scholars self-identifying as being from groups underrepresented in academia or Coal Transitions related research, as well as aiming to achieve diversity in gender, geography, discipline, and career stage. Selected candidates will be contacted in March 2024. The total number of fellowship applications selected will depend on available funds.
