Exploring Columbus #2

Theme: Food

Experience 2: North Market

My first impression of the North Market was that it reminded me a lot of Trader Joe’s. It was very busy at the time, but I remember how calming it still felt. I enjoyed being at a grocery type store as I realized how often I went at home and how odd it felt to not easily have access to one now. My favorite experience of the location was the Jeni’s Ice Cream. Though it was good, I wouldn’t say it quite lived up to the hype so many locals have placed around it. Regardless, I would recommend the North Market to a friend as it has so much variety and food to offer.

Experience 3: Schmidt’s Sausage Haus und Restaurant

When my parents came to visit they took  me to German Village for lunch. It is beautiful with old stone buildings and the brick road. We spent most of our time just admiring random houses we saw on our way to the restaurant after parking the car. Once we got to the restaurant it was far more casual than I had anticipated, making me somewhat skeptical. Once we got our food, however, it completely lived up to the hype around it. I would recommend this restaurant to a friend for sure not only just for the food, but for the environment.

My favorite experience from this semester was going to German village. I have learned that Columbus is such a diverse city with countless opportunities (for more than just food too!).  This project has made me want to explore more of the arts side of Columbus. I would recommend someone wanting to explore the city make sure they are moving out of just the short north and seeing what Columbus has to offer beyond.

Columbus To Do List #1

Columbus To Do List #1: Food

For this semester I chose from the list food for my exploring Columbus project. For this choice, I am most looking forward to going to Condados, but also I am overall looking forward to getting off campus with my friends and exploring the Columbus (while also eating some good food). Out of this semester, I hope to have a better understanding of the city and be able to make recommendations to others about where they should eat when they visit Columbus.

The first experience was going to Condados. It was my roommates eighteenth birthday so we all decided to get dressed up and go to the short north. Though Condados is usually packed, we went late on a Wednesday and were seated immediately. The tacos were amazing, I tried two different kinds and could barely finish the two. Overall it was a great first choice. My roommates and I also grew a lot closer bonding over dinner. I found that food is a great bonding tool. I also grew in my knowledge of the bus system on the way there, which is extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend and I now feel more confident in navigating the Short North.

G.O.A.L.S.

My peer group and I went to Chop Shop for our Columbus adventure. It was interesting to be at such a staple for OSU students, and to better learn about my peer group! We went on Monday during class time and walked together from Drackett Tower. I learned a lot about my peer group from the experience, their goals, internships, and even allergies (also I learned that the burgers are excellent). Overall, I would recommend Chop Shop to others because it has good, fast food at a reasonable price. Also it’s super close so there isn’t the huge hassle of transportation most students struggle with. Unfortunately, we were so caught up in getting to know each other we failed to take a picture, but below is a fairly accurate representation of what it all looked like.
