My First Week at OSU

My first week at OSU has been as good as I could have imagined except for some minor setbacks. In fact, I came to the Fisher Early arrival program and met tons of new friends right away. I wasn’t really nervous about coming here because I have been coming here all my life because I am from Cincinnati and my dad went here. I love Ohio State; I’ve wanted to go here since I was a little baby dressing for Halloween. My first week was amazing, but then a minor setback happened which has made my transition into college quite interesting.

There I was in my dorm the challenge awaited. I had to climb up 100 ft. up my lofted bed, so I could sleep for the night. I began the climb one step at a time until I got to the infamous towel step, where my bath towel was hanging to dry. It was as dark as darkness could be. I slowly felt my foot slipping and tried to save myself, but it was too late. I crashed violently onto the ground and heard a loud pop. Unfortunately, I was that kid. That freshman who fell off his bed and dislocated his elbow. So I have to endure a cast and sling as I’ve transitioned into college a minor setback for a major comeback.

My first week of college was great, I had to change my schedule once and I have no classes before 12:40, so I get to sleep in. My classes are also awesome. I love my astronomy class, I find it very interesting and I want to go to smith lab and visit the observatory. I’ve met some awesome people and I can’t wait to keep meeting more people.

I am super excited about humanities scholars. I was in a humanities class in high school and it was by far my favorite class. We engaged in debated and discussions about current issues facing society, philosophy and many other things. I often got into debates with my peers and I was challenged on things I believed in. I had to defend my beliefs in that class and I learned a lot about the perspectives of other people as well as gained new insight into my critical thinking abilities. I hope for similar discussions in humanities scholars where I can broaden my knowledge about issues and topics in the world.
