Lines and Boxes

Thinking of the Acoma and their straight lines, I drew some myself (with the assistance of a ruler) and folded the paper into a box smaller than the palm of my hand.

I’ve noticed a similarity between the two: though the vessel for the Acoma was very organic and mine very geometrical, the lines of both converge and diverge at symmetrical angles. That’s easy to accomplish when you’re making a box, but maybe not so easy when you’re making a vase.

Inspirational Pottery

I have always been fascinated with the fine lines and immense amount of details seen within Pueblo and Acoma pottery. The repetition of shapes and patterns would transfer over wonderfully to a 2D shape….theoretically. Most  patterns I have seen have only been applied onto round pieces, so I think it would be interesting to see what happens to these patterns when they are transformed onto a shape with hard edges.

Hello virtual world!

I have a confession…..this is my first time writing a blog! Looks like crazy things really are happening with COVID-19 out and about! Anyways, I am writing this blog as a method to share what I’ve been creating with my hands since ceramics face-to-face is out of the question.

I guarantee everything I do will be questionably made, happy browsing!
