G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness:  This category involves diversity and how college students can impact the world. I am engaged in this category because I’m a part of the Sikh Student Association (SSA) which is a religious organization here at OSU. I chose to be a part of this club to keep in touch with my culture and identity, and find a sense of community while being two hours away from home.
  • Original Inquiry:  This category is all about research and gaining experience in the field which will expand one’s credibility, and help develop effective critical thinking and problem-solving mindsets. I hope to be involved with this kind of work in the future by performing research and taking advanced coursework to help me prepare for medical school and beyond.
  • Academic Enrichment:  The point of this category is to promote taking on challenging coursework. I plan on applying this category to my life by choosing coursework that is designed to enhance problem-solving and thinking. Moreover, if I choose to have a lighter course-load, I am going to pair it with research and/or other extracurricular activities.
  • Leadership Development:  The point of this category is to emphasize how important it is to gain leadership experience and how it may help one later in life. I plan on applying this to my life by participating more in my organizations/clubs and acquiring a role on the executive board. This experience will help me because it will allow me to be creative and learn what it feels like to be in control which is something I will need because I am aspiring to be a doctor.
  • Service Engagement:  This category is important in that it promotes participation in community events. In the next semester, I hope to be more involved in service acts as they help to build relationships, experience, and many other advantageous skills.
