G.O.A.L.S.

My group and I went to 4th street burger on Thursday October 25th. We decided to go here because we all love food, it was a discount day on Thursday for burgers and appetizers and it has vegetarian burgers. My favorite part had to be when we all shared appetizers with each other and I felt like it was a bonding moment because in my culture sharing food is a genuine sign of respect. This place was kind of lowkey place where you don’t have to dress up, not that loud of music, and you can literally come from a class straight there (like I did) and still fit in. I learned a lot about my peers for example most of them don’t like eating meat. Next time I would drive because I was freezing. I would 100% recommend this place especially on Thursdays when appetizers are half off and burgers start at $3.00 which is awesome especially if you are on a fixed income.

Saturday November 24th, Hana, Preston, and I went to Jenis Splendid ice cream shop in Clintonville. We all have been to Jenis before but this was Hana’s and I first time at this location. It was cool to see how the interior differed from the one I go to. I enjoyed sharing ice cream with my friends that I met through HES. If I would do something differently it would have been to go on a school day since I would be closer to the location and not have had to drive all the way from Reynoldsburg on a Saturday. I would definitely recommend Jenis or any ice cream shop because almost everyone loves ice cream and it’s such a chill place to just sit and talk. I learned that Hana and Preston like weird flavors of ice cream, I got the most close to basic flavor which was gooey butter cake which basically tasted like cake batter with pieces of cake.

Career

Artifacts

This photo is from 2014 my teacher and I are standing in front of the Eiffel Tower in France. During my travels through Europe I had found my passion of traveling. I want to see the beauty the world has to offer. I want to see the difference of the interaction of life in different parts of the world. I have been to a total of 4 countries (Ethiopia, Holland, France, and Italy) and hopefully my list will grow. The world is so vast with so many things to explore and I find it fascinating. With the humanitarian work I want to do in my future, it will allow me to better peoples lives and also travel the world.

This photo was taken while I was starting to paint a pumpkin for my friend Amanda. I got the chance to do some community service at Heinzerling for Halloween and it was amazing to be with the Amanda and to see her smile at all the spooky things. Community Service and giving back to my community has rounded me into the person I am today. My parents had a hard time growing up as immigrants and they had the help from there peers and neighbors because of the language barrier. My parents have allows told me to give back and help people when possible because you never know what that person is going through. Since, a young age I have serviced my community to the best of my abu,it’s and I will continue to do so.

About Me

Hello my name is Axumawite Gebreyhones I am a first year undergraduate student at THE Ohio State University. I am studying Civil Engineering with the hopes of graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. My love for engineering started when I interned for EMH&T my senior year of high school. I was given the chance to shadow different engineering departments which where: Survey, Construction Services, and Utilities. My favorite had to have been construction services because its really hands on and technical. I always knew I wanted to help people through my profession and through civil engineering I ultimately want to be able to build infrastructure in developing countries. Pleas feel free to contact me as I am a young scholar who is open to any opportunities.

1. Significance

2. Competition

3. Communication

4. Command

5. Adaptability

I feel the CliftonStrengths was a good measure of my strengths. My top strength is Significance, from grade school all the way through high school I have noticed that the “bad kids” always got more attention and praise when they did good things. But, the student who followed directions all the time (like me) rarely got praise so, that is why I strive for people to notice my good work.  Competition is also one of my strengths, I love competing with people because it keeps me on my toes. I strive to be the best at what I do, and competing with others pushes me to deliver exceptional work. I have been told before that I have natural abilities in public speaking so, I am not surprised Communication showed up as one of my strong suits.  Command is 4th on my strengths lists and at first it came off a little tense but when I think about it I have held a lot of leadership positions in clubs/organizations. The way I carry myself influences people to follow my lead and I am proud of that. My 5th strength is Adaptability, I like to live life one day at a time not focusing  to much on whats to come but, living in the moment. I like to invest my time in facing my life’s obstacles as they come so I can learn from them, and used what I have learned for my future.
