Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness:

I would like to study abroad at some point while I’m at Ohio State – potentially over the summer. I’m interested in either Greece or Italy, as I have never been to either country. Being surrounded by a completely different culture and way of life for an extended period of time would drastically develop my sense of global awareness as both a student and a person.

  • Original Inquiry:

Many pre-dental students are not involved in research; however, after looking at the OSU College of Dentistry website for Research, it does seem like something I would be interested in getting involved in. The College of Dentistry provides opportunities for dental research in many different fields that one wouldn’t think to attribute directly to dentistry, including cancer research and immunology. I think that being involved at research at least at one point during my time at Ohio State would be beneficial for my learning and my skills needed to get in to dental school.

  • Academic Enrichment:

I am majoring in biology on a pre-dental track. I’ve always been driven toward the sciences and dentistry appealed to me as a career choice because it involves the medical field and helping people, but it also provides a flexible schedule I can tailor to my lifestyle in the future. Most of the major pre-requisites coincide with courses that many American dental schools require in undergrad, so this will allow me to have a focused course of study while also allowing me to prepare for the future.

  • Leadership Development:

I am hoping to get involved in writing for High Street Style, a student-organized publication about fashion, music, and culture. Serving as a contributor would not only allow me to develop writing skills, but to express interest in areas besides just academics/the sciences.

  • Service Engagement:

As a member of Pre-Dental Club, I am constantly given opportunities to participate in local service events. Members of the club are encouraged to get involved in service opportunities that pique their interest. I was able to volunteer at the Ohio Dental Association convention in September.
