Year in Review

Exploring Columbus: The Fox in the Snow
For the Scholars’ “Columbus To Do List” project, I chose to take my taste buds on a sophisticated journey through the exciting world of America’s favorite drug: coffee. Let me start off by saying I could not be more excited to tour Columbus’ finest java joints. There is nothing better than waking up at a cool 11 am and strolling into a hip and happening bistro with nothing in stow but your Buck ID and a couple of your closest pals.
Purchasing coffee fit for the bourgeois and wrapping yourself in a caffeine cocoon, however, is only the first half of this adventure. The real fun is in sharing the latest “hot goss” over a couple of the finest pastries the bistro has to offer. How do I know, you ask? I indulged in such an experience just under two weeks ago. My friends and I were feeling a little extra stressed with studio review rapidly approaching and so we did what any college student would do: we drowned our sorrows in copious amounts of overly priced coffee.
The Fox in the Snow, a local Columbus coffee favorite, provided just the right atmosphere to trash-talk our lives and lift our spirits. Might I add that there is nothing quite like sitting down to drink your cup of Joe only to realize it looks shockingly like the fancy coffee they serve in high-budget movies.
Between everything going on in each of our classes, it was such a relief to get out of Haverfield, where finding only two cockroaches is considered a good day, and explore our city on the cusp of Autumn. Personally, after such a successful outing, I cannot wait to further my espresso experiences.
About Me
When I first imagined what Ohio State Welcome Week would entail, I imagined the insanely epic party scene from Leonardo DiCaprio’s “The Great Gatsby.” What I actually experienced was almost exactly that. Buck-I-Frenzy was like walking through a sea of people and free stuff – and it was just as awesome as it sounds. Freshman convocation was surprisingly bearable and listening to President Drake talk made me realize how down-to-earth he is, which is very rare for a man in his position. I met so many new people and made so many friends and I know that I will keep them all four years I attend school here. My classes, on the other hand, are so much different than what I expected. I assumed a majority of them would be dry lectures by archaic professors. I was so wrong. Studio is exciting and extremely interesting, requiring much more creativity and “outside-the-box” thinking than I am used to. My lecture classes are small enough that I receive individualized help if I need it. Every one of my professors has made sure to make themselves available to their students through office hours. At first, it was a little weird getting adjusted to life at college. Everyone here, however, has helped me acclimate to my surroundings and new lifestyle. I have only been here for two weeks and Ohio State truly already feels like home.
