Hello!

A professional portrait from the 2020 Joint Math Meetings in Denver, Colorado, January 2020

Welcome to my u.osu.edu website (actually, my only real “website”). I am currently a seventh year Ph. D. student at the Department of Mathematics here at OSU, and I am teaching the “regular” (in the sense that no “nontraditional” topics like PDE’s or linear algebra in the curriculum) Calculus III class, Math 2153, Spring Semester 2020.  My research interests are primarily in commutative algebra and valuation theory (see my Research page linked to the left for more details), and my advisor is Professor Alan Loper. Likely things that will appear on this site may be notes relevant to my research interests and for presentations I’ve given in various contexts (not strictly research), reference handouts and problem solutions for my students, and some personal and/or fun stuff to demonstrate I am in fact a sane, well-adjusted human being. If you’re my student or a student for a course I taught in the past that I’ve posted materials for or if you have any interest in what I’m teaching or how I’m teaching, please visit my Teaching page.

My office is Mathematics Tower (MW) 409, my office phone number is (614) 247-1993, my school email address is garrett.425@osu.edu, and my office hours (all in MW 409) for the Spring 2020 semester are Mondays 10:30-11:30am, Wednesdays 11:30am-12:30pm, Thursdays 10-11am, or by appointment. I am also available on Tuesdays 10:20-11:20am in Cockins Hall room 131, as that is my shift in the Mathematics and Statistics Learning Center “tutor room” for Math 2153, Math 2162, Math 2173, and Math 2177. You are more likely to receive sustained one-on-one attention during my office hours than during my tutor room hour due to the volume and variety of students in different courses in Cockins Hall room 131 when I’m there.
