Prospective Students

The Gardiner Lab is a highly productive community-engaged insect ecology group. Our research aims to improve the quality of managed ecosystems for people and arthropods.

The lab accepts applications to the PhD program within The Department of Entomology and the Environmental Sciences Graduate Program. A MS degree is not required to apply to these PhD programs. At this time, we will consider students with a 3.8 or higher undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) GPA. This GPA is needed to be successful in our internal fellowship competitions, which assist our lab with funding prospective students. The Gardiner Lab is currently not accepting applications from students interested in an MS degree due to the longer term nature of our active projects.

Dr. Gardiner is interested in working with students who are driven researchers with substantial experience in the lab and field. We seek people who are motivated by achievement and aim to become a research leader in our field. Students with experience writing research publications and small grants as well as those who have received research-based awards are especially encouraged to apply. Demonstration of outstanding technical writing skills is required. Applications are due in early December for consideration for the following fall.

Below is the Gardiner Lab mentor/mentee compact, which we hope provides prospective students with a picture of what it is like to be part of our team.
